Using its size as an advantage, this organization provides its customers with an assortment of low-priced, bulk products.

Adams Wholesale Company provides its customers with bulk wholesale goods. With a team led by owner Fred Adams, who also serves as president, the organization is able to use its size and scope to its advantage, offering a wide assortment of low-priced products to its customer base.

With facilities in North Carolina, the organization, which was established more than 70 years ago, operates throughout most regions of the state. In addition to the retailers it distributes goods to, Adams Wholesale Company operates its own chain of retail stores, Fred’s Food Clubs.

In total, there are three Fred’s Food Clubs locations in the North Carolina towns of Rocky Mount, Greenville, and Wilson.

A lovely setting

Rocky Mount is set along the coastal plains of North Carolina, roughly a 45-minute drive from Raleigh, the state capital. It was formally incorporated in 1867; however, communities were residing there long before that time. In fact, the first post office was established there in the early 1800s.

The town’s name was derived from the rocky mound at the falls of the Tar River, which was also the site of one of North Carolina’s first cotton mills: Rocky Mount Mills, established in 1818. In 1845, the Wilmington-Weldon Railroad was built roughly 2 miles east of the mill, and this became Rocky Mount’s main connection to the outside world.

In 1999, Rocky Mount was named an All-America City. The quaint town that was built upon a rock had become a progressive city in its own right. Throughout the years, many other major facilities had been established, such as Nash General Hospital, Nash Community College, a new water plant, and Rocky Mount-Wilson Airport.

During recent years, Rocky Mount’s arts community has seen significant growth and development. Local city authorities operate an arts center, a children’s museum and science center, and a community theater at The Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences.

The Imperial Centre is home to many types of visual and performing arts programs, and its staff emphasizes art education for all ages. With an assortment of exhibitions, community theatre productions, classes, and special events, The Imperial Centre is able to meet this goal year after year.

At its on-site Galleryshop, The Imperial Centre sells items and products, such as clay, wood, fiber, jewelry, and more. In addition, it showcases and sells work produced by several artists who live in the region or state.

A developing community

Overall, the town of Rocky Mount is a developing community. In addition to its strong wholesale and retail businesses and its thriving arts community, Rocky Mount is home to a significant amount of development construction that’s proving promising for the future of residents.

Development services provided by the city’s officials include ordinance enforcement in the areas of construction, zoning, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and signage activities. Ultimately, the goal is to develop and execute growth principles that help revitalize, improve, and preserve many of North Carolina’s neighborhoods.

As part of the effort, Rocky Mount is providing its residents with safe and affordable housing and expanding economic opportunities, especially for those with low-to-moderate incomes. The city authorities are looking to partner with a variety of public and private organizations as a method of funding this mission.

The Rocky Mount city government operates out of a 119,000-square-foot facility located in the downtown area. The building was constructed in 1982 at a cost of $8 million. However, due to key partnerships and smart business, the project was completed in a manner that allowed the city to be entirely debt-free upon completion. The central facility houses all city department main offices, as well as the police department headquarters.
